Participating to the groupshow Possession: Art, Power and Black Womanhood group exhibition at New Shelter Plan, Copenhagen, Denmark. Possession: Art, Power and Black Womanhood brings together the artwork of 12 female artists of African descent from around the world, representing contemporary expressions of Black womanhood in the 21st century and reflecting on the historical journey from ethnographic subjects to autonomous creators. As the first exhibition of its kind in Denmark, the show marks the beginning of a process that seeks to connect the work of Afro-Scandinavian women artists with those of others around the transatlantic Diaspora. Artworks exhibited will naturally reflect the colourful nuances, similarities and divergences of “racial” and gender identities of Black womanhood.
