WOUND - KITTILÄ

2016

Wound I – Kittilä is the beginning of a new body of work by Sasha Huber titled The Future is Mine too.

It begins in Kittilä, Finland, soon to become the site of Europe’s biggest gold mine. Large-scale exploitation of natural resources is a global phenomenon that comes at a high cost to the environment. Loss of biodiversity and contamination of soil and groundwater by mining processes affect the wildlife and human beings – often indigenous peoples – living near the mines. This can result in displacement of whole communities causing an irreversible imbalance.
