Haiti Chérie screens as part of the first edition of The Compiler Screenings - Borders Boundries that deals with issues related to borders and boundaries linked to notions of territories, national borders, personal behaviors and social and cultural boundaries in the every day. The edition is curated by Whiteframe in Basel and Timo Soppela, director of the artists’ association MUU from Helsinki.

Participating artists from Switzerland and Finland: Thomas Kneubühler,  Thomas Westphal, Ursula Biemann, Sasha Huber,  Andreas Muggli, Timo Wright,  Eric Lanz,  Antti Laitinen,  Fabio Friedli,  KirsiMarja Metsähuone,  Pasi Autio,  Anka Schmid,  Sandra Knecht,  Peter Liechti and Johanna Lecklin.

Kalmar Konstmuseum in collaboration with Öland, Mörbylånga and the municipality of Kalmar invited me and my regular collaborator and partner Petri Saarikko to a artist residency. We will develop new work and give artist talks on 23.11.

11.–30.11.2016
Launch of The Shelter project at Kallio Kunsthalle in Helsinki. The Shelter is about decolonising structures through community art.

KARAKIA – The Resetting Ceremony (2015) was given a Special Mention at the 20th International Video Festival Videomedeja in Serbia.

I’m happy to announce my participation in the international group exhibition In Search of the Present curated by Pilvi Kalhama, Henna Paunu and Päivi Talasmaa. 

The opening is on Tuesday, 11.10.2016, at 6pm and the exhibition lasts until 8.1.2017. An exhibition catalogue will be published at a later stage.

Participating artists are David Altmejd, Berlinde de Bruyckere, Harun Farocki, Maria Friberg, Hannaleena Heiska, Camille Henrot, Berglind Jóna Hlynsdóttir, Artor Jesus Inkerö, Saija Kassinen, Yazan Khalili, Klara Kristalova, Elke Silvia Krystufek, Antti Laitinen, Jonathan Monk, Ben Okri, Erwin Olaf, Aza Shadenova, Elly Strik, Pascale Marthine Tayou, Anne Tompuri, Akram Zaatari.

In Search of the Present is the first edition of an exhibition series exploring the nature of the human beings that inhabit a global digital world and their relationship with the environment, themselves and other people.


The exhibition includes three works of mine. One is my biggest work to date, Sea of the Lost, a portrait by Yusra Mardini and Malala.

22.–25.9.2016
Together with Petri Saarikko I was invited to participate in the 5th edition of Art Prospect Performance Festival, which is the only annual event in St. Petersburg that brings contemporary art works from around the world to the city streets. This years theme was 'Dialogue' and took place in St.Petersburg’s Admiralteysky district. On this occasion we realized our sixt Remedies project called Lullabies which delves into the dreams of today.

22.7.2016, 6:00pm, Le Centre D'Art, Port-au-Prince, Haiti
During January we lead a workshop at the Le Centre D'Art and produced Remedies Haiti with a group of multidisciplinary artists. The live performance took place on the 29.1. and the video performance premiered at Savvy Contemporary in Berlin during The Incantation of the Disquieting Muse's INVOCATIONS program that was curated by Nathalie Anguezomo Mba Bikoro. Now we are pleased to screen it for the first time in Haiti.

Excited to join the 4th edition of BE.BOP, a production by Art Labour Archives, brings together artistic practices and scientific contributions under the thematic framework of CALL & RESPONSE. BE.BOP brings into focus once again, a historical perspective on the racialized inequalities during the periods of imperial expansion and colonization. I will be participating in the eighth and final public discussion called "(De)coloniality and Scandinavian Exceptionalism". The program can be viewed here.

In conversation with Chimurenga's Ntone Edjabe and artist Christopher Wessels live on Pan African Space Station at the Kallio Library in Helsinki. This program was curated by Ahmed Al-Nawas as part of the Remembering Silences project.

The video My Racism is a Humanism. A lecture shows in the Rapu space of the Pori Art Museum and was curated by Anni Venäläinen.
